Anno 1800 is a city-building simulator with strategic elements fitted into it. Players will take charge of their own fortune as they navigate the rapidly evolving technological and malicious political landscape of the 19th century in their quest to build an empire that will stand the test of time. The game was released in 2019. First, it was planning to come out on Steam, but they at Ubisoft Blue Byte decided to move the game exclusively to Epic Games Store.
Some people actually got the chance to get the game on early access to their Steam account and it is still working for these users on Steam, but for new players getting into the game, they will need to look it up from EGS.
Mechanics of the Anno 1800
In the game, you will start as the puny little island. Trying to survive by building lumberjack’s huts and this way giving your village the first resources it needs to go further. You will soon after start fishing for food for your farmers and making work clothes for them. Once you make sure all the necessary resources and items for your people are done, you should also keep your eye out for your economy. All huts, fisheries, etc. will cost you maintenance, which in end game will be very high. To make some money in the game, you need to produce some luxury items for your people, such as schnapps, and build pubs. These will grow your expenses but your farmers will also pay more when they use these services and items.
Sooner or later you can grow your village to bigger things, evolving your farmers into workers, unlocking industrial factories, such as steel factories and brick foundries. These workers have different needs, some shared ones with the farmers, so you need to make sure that your resources are coming out and lasting to each townie. In the future, your port island will grow so big that you need to think about producing electricity, maybe decide to go to seek the New World on the expedition.
Ruthless pirates lurking every nook and cranny
In the Old World, the world you start the game in there is a ruthless pirate called Anne Harlow, who only wants money and your demise. It is near impossible to try to work with this pirate to be in peace all throughout your explorations and town building. They will seek to destroy your shipments and maybe even your port if you are not protecting yourself well enough. Of course, there is a chance to destroy these pirates all along by conquering their island, but it is heavily guarded so it will take a lot from you.
You might think there are no dangers in the New World, once you arrive there, but no. There is another pirate lord, Jean La Fortune, waiting for you to submit to them.
Anno 1800 is a lot of fun, even the base game without any of the DLCs. You find hours, even days of content if you can’t handle it all at once. Evolving your island to the top takes time, especially when you work on your diplomacy with other settlements. The game is also a lot of fun with your friends. Just don’t buy your friend’s island or bombard them at the start, might leave a sour feel behind.
Anno 1800, is currently only 23.99€, but this sale ends on the 6th of September, tomorrow! So get it before it ends, after the sale the game will return to its full price, 59,99€.
