Amazon’s 2021 flagship title has finally been released to the public after days of open beta, and not everyone is enjoying it. The graphically beautiful, adventure-filled open-world MMO is having quite a rough start.
There are many reasons why fans are disappointed by New World’s release, but the main ones are related to connectivity and server issues.
Amazon owns AWS, the biggest cloud computing platform globally, yet they are underprepared for their game’s release; their EU server has a capacity of 2000 players, whilst 300k+ are trying to enter the servers, according to Steam Database. As a result, players have been leaving quite a lot of negative reviews on Steam.
Additionally, players complain that there are no SEA servers available, meaning they have to play elsewhere with 250+ ping.
Amazon Games had months to prepare for public release. Alpha testing and open beta indeed gave them enough time to adjust questing, item balancing and other various gameplay tweaks, but they did not find a stable way to provide all players with a place to join the game. So at the moment, fans are waiting 2+ hours minimum to join the new MMO experience.
Hopefully, all the feedback will give Amazon Games a good wake-up call to open more servers soon.
