A week ago Back 4 Blood’s beta was starting well, but one hiccup came along. The hiccup was that the zombie running your way sounded like it was screaming some racial slurs at you. On Twitter user, HomBKE brought this up and more similar footage has been raised after that. Similar can be heard on user Dotodoya’s clip.
Usually, when something like this comes up, we wonder if this is intentional and it would be remiss not to address it. Game developers at Turtle Rock gave a statement where they explained that the zombie’s AI is randomizing growls, and sometimes it can be misheard as a racial slur.
There is a known beta issue where several ridden growl sound effects are randomly combined by the system in such a way to create what sounds like an offensive slur. While unintentional, we take this very seriously and are profoundly sorry for any hurt or harm this may have caused. This issue will be fixed prior to launch.– Back 4 Blood offical Twitter account
While the issue is being fixed, it has not stopped the massive popularity of Back 4 Blood. They managed to get up to 100,000 concurrent players. Time will tell what happens when the game launches.
